"Castle Stumble - Ludlow Castle's bid for the Premiership title in the Shropshire Mens tennis league received a setback this week when they narrowly lost to Shrewsbury's first team on the grass at Shrewsbury. Missing number one player, Ben Disley, who is representing Shropshire at County week, the team had a losing draw, with first pair Philip Fourie and Cedric Egby beating the opposition's first pair but surprisingly losing to the second pair in a tie-break. With the second pair of Gary Walters and Mike Connoly winning one rubber and losing another the match was decided on games. The result was a setback for Ludlow as they had comprehensively beaten High Ercal 7-1 in their previous match and a win at Shrewsbury would have put them in contention for the title. They now need to win their remaining matches if they are to stand a chance of winning the league."
"The Second Team concluded an up and down season with a needed home win against Bridgnorth 3. The youthful spearhead of Martyn Jones and Ben
Napper won both their rubbers: 6-2 6-2 and 6-3 7-5. Stalwarts Neil
Church (Captain) and John Lawson failed to convert three match points
in losing their first ruber 6-4, 6-7 0-1, but won the second
comfortably, 6-0 6-1. The 7-1 points win was the fourth in eight
matches and staved off any fears of relegation. "
